Hi, Everyone - gonna be in Sequoia NP in a couple of weeks, and hope to bushwhack to the Suwanee Sequoia Grove using GPS, compass and maps.
The old 1960s official trail to Suwanee started at Halstead Meadows, but it's abandoned and long gone, so I am wondering if anyone has a spot they use for a bushwhack jump-off - do you use Halstead Meadows picnic area, about 2.5 miles as the crow flies, or do you use a spot farther northwest where the distance is a bit shorter but the gradient is steeper?
Any and all responses appreciated - thanks! - Bruce

Guess nobody's done it. Post a trip report when you get back.
