Department of State, huh? So you tapped into Hillary's email account? Did she put New York in the Midatlantic?
It's either a vast wingless, flightless Backpacker conspiracy, or our favorite little chimp found the password to the database and moved it.

announce a "new and improved" version I also thought that! But I realized I need to see what the next few days might reveal before I say too much more. I had a note from HQ a few days ago, asking if I would be available for a conference call. They want to discuss some changes and prioritize them! That sounds ominous to me. The phrase "ain't broke" comes to mind. I saw some remarks in an earlier thread that expessed concerns, wonding if this forum would be moved back under the BP.com umbrella? I don't see that happening. What I wanted to do was reassure everyone that this forum is beyond being temporary, it's established. Now if HQ wants to do something, some promotion would be nice; they can send email to all registered members from the old site and make sure people know to come back to the new forum!

announce a "new and improved" version they can send email to all registered members from the old site and make sure people know to come back to the new forum! There so many bogus registered users on the old site that some servers might block Backpacker as a possible spammer.

Even if they wanted this site back, what would make it their own in a legal sense? It doesn't reside on their servers and it certainly doesn't have anything to do with their proprietary name.

Active Interest Media should stick to subjects that management is familiar with, like...Stable Management you know horse....!

As one who advocated totally scrapping the original (broken) forum, even though it meant losing all of the archival information I applaud the move.
Thanks for all your hard work Steve.

Something is underway over there. I got a zombie e-mail notification from an ancient post. That particular post seems to generate them whenever they copy the database to a new place.

whenever they copy the database to a new pl As a matter of fact, I tried to access the old forums again this morning. I have had hit and miss success even seeing the old threads, IF it will accept my sign in. Today I found no entry point even though last week there was still a big FORUM link on the Home page that did, in fact, still go to old TR! All other links had been changed to point here weeks ago. Now there is zero access. I do actually womder what is going on at HQ? Twice I'm asked to stand by for a call, twice the event has passed with no call. I am ready to let things just go quiet. Dangerous question: Is there actually anything left to wish for here? We have good photo posting, a dazzlingly-good search function, a growing list of data for n00bs to mine (the old forum was good but aging; this is fresh!) , and smilies galore. Is anything else really needed?

I logged into the old forums yesterday and there was still activity, people making posts and signing up. Logged into the Mag also and looked at some tent reviews. Today there is definitely something afoot, hope it gets straightened out.

Is there any way to get the archived material over here. Or, find a way to easily link to it?

That is pretty much what I was trying for. The search function there was miserable but sort of worked, eventually. Sort of! So I have no idea how there could ever be access, but again, that's old news and can be (should be) rebuilt here over time. If I ever have that chat with HQ, I'll suggest they get a drone for deliveries. Imagine a drone buzzing around with a BP logo flag and a box of wings as cargo! Amazon, go fish!

It got me checking in every day at least once. The old one did not in its later stages. Thanks.
