And I double checked and it doesn't appear to be an April 1st hoax. www.mensjournal.com/adventure/outdoor/watch-climbers-light-the-entire-snake-dike-route-on-half-dome-20150901#ixzz3kmlJiIlYThat's right up there with that moron woman who painted "art" on rocks in a series of national parks: vandalism. Who in any Federally Designated Wilderness backcountry wants to look out and see a lighted dotted line wandering up the slope of a feature on their horizon? Not to mention the idiocy of "climbing by following the dots". I'm still holding out hope that this is just a hoax I fell for. Granted, the Cables: but they at least disappear at a distance and have a cultural history (though one I'm sort of ambivalent at best with) but lights?

Replacing stainless steel anchors that reflect the sun to reduce visual impact but putting LED lights up? Makes no sense. Bring back the Fire Fall next.

It may have just been a temporary publicity/art project and they took the stuff down immediately after. Yeah from their webpages anything permanent would definitely seem to be contradictory.

I couldn't listen with sound, but my thoughts were the same as HSF's. Temporary installation is temporary. Just a cool little way to show off a popular climb route.

The thing that had me worried at first glance was the solar powered LED lights, that's the sort of thing you put up on permanent uses like for lighting a driveway or walkway or to light the doorway of a remote utility shed.
Simple battery lanterns would have signaled a much more temporary installation as they have a definite finite life: solar doesn't.

From their YouTube video:
"The light show only lasted around five hours as we cleaned the route on the rappel down"

Thanks!
Ah, that's consistent with their webpage, couldn't hear the audio off my device.

It is from my experience that I can say those little solar powered LED walkway lights also have a finite life, hah.

Kind of looks like Christmas lights in the wilderness. Not something I'd like to see.

Seemed like it was a temporary thing and am glad it was.
