Heading to New Hampshire in early Sept and we are looking to do an overnight somewhere in the Southern Adirondacks on the way. Any ideas?

Primitive camping, car camping, or hotel/motel?

Many overnight opportunities in the Lake George Wild Forest or Pharaoh Lake Wilderness, both very beautiful.

Primitive camping, car camping, or hotel/motel? Primitive, fairly short in out and back or loop, one backcountry night.

OK. I have several ideas. Do you know what route you're taking thru NY, into VT/NH? I could narrow it down even more.

We usually jump off the Thru-Way at about Amsterdam and go through Saratoga Springs into VT and north and across. We are traveling to Sunapee to spend a couple days with my dad and then up to do a longer trip in the Whites. BTW, I have long thought you have the best New England trail name ever.

There is very little along that corridor. But go a bit out of your way (to the north), and there are plenty of opportunities. Especially if you take the Route 8 corridor, then drop down to Lake George. Probably your best bet for planning purposes is to visit the NY state land interactive viewer, where you can see things like trails, lean-tos, and campsites: www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/45415.htmlThanks re the trail name. I feel like I have personally been responsible for entire generations of blackflies. Miserable creatures, yet I also refer to them as the "saviors of the backcountry"... keeping the urban hordes from invading their lands.

You cross some good sections of the AT/LT and spurs an hour east of Saratoga. You can cross Vt. on 9 or 4. I live in this area if you need more specifics.

He mainly set his books in Africa, and your words are similar to how he describes the tsetse fly and how it is the savior of Africa!
