I read in the comments section that the tagged bear was put down because of this nitwit. Yes, this was featured on the WNBC News last week. I think the new first rule in any potentially dangerous situation is be sure to capture video, because this could be good. Survival is secondary to web views. |

I also note that this happened a few hours drive from where a bear killed someone last year who was too busy taking phone video of the encounter to react to the bear's approach.

She should be fined for harassing the bears. What a stupid thing to do. She should have been yelling at those bears instead of just standing there like a moron. The bears look like very curious yearlings to me. She could have turned this into a learning experience for those bears.

Get that picture at all costs. Stupid. She led to the bear(s) being executed. I've run into several bears when hiking and canoeing in the BWCA. Either back off (don't egg them on) or make a lot of noise etc. Bears have come into my camp, been on the portage trail, been on the hiking trail. No real problem. Just don't be, for lack of another term, an idiot. If they're young they tend to be curious as have many young animals (fox, coon, skunk, coyote, deer, bobcat) I've encountered. Just like young people kids. Just don't egg them on if you don't want contact. They are real animals that don't go by people rules.
