Hey all,
I'm planning a three day hike soon and would prefer it be round trip. Looking to do it somewhere in Virginia. Any suggestions. Perhaps a trailhead no more than two hours from the Charlottesville area.

You can easily spend 3 + days here. It's one big loop with other smaller trails that all loop back on each other. Was there in April, going back in June. When we were there in April we ran into some people who had been doing every trail loop there and they said we were the first people they had seen in 3 days, it's very quiet and secluded. Summer might be a little more active, idk Be prepared to cross up-to knee-deep water at least a handful of times, south of the main campsites on laurel fork, if you do the whole circuit. What we did was pack in from the parking lot on the NW corner and hiked East along Buck Run to the main campsites. You don't cross any water that way. You also wont cross water if you take Locust Spring trail to the main campsites. There's a handful of campsites along Laurel Fork on the East side of the trail system that are nice sites. We setup camp there and then day hiked the rest of the weekend to check out the rest of the area, packed up and hiked out Locust Spring trail. Slap Camp wasn't in very good condition, overgrown and blocked in spots. www.hikingupward.com/GWNF/SlabcampRunLocustSpring/www.hikingupward.com/GWNF/LaurelFork/That site has hikes from all over VA and all border states, NC, WV and MD; I just posted a thread about it before posting this reply, didn't see your thread at first.

You might consider renting Corbin Cabin from the PATC for 2 nights. You could park at Old Rag and
Day 1: Hike along the Nicholson Hollow trail, Corbin Mountain Trail and Indian Hollow Trail to Corbin Cabin where you spend the night. Day 2: Hike up the Corbin Cutoff Trail to the AT. Hike Southbound on the AT. Turn right on the Passamaquoddy Trail and loop back to the AT. Head Northbound but make sure to turn off to the Stony Man Mountain peak. Return to the AT, head Northbound and take the Nicholson Hollow trail back to Corbin Cabin. Day 3: Hike back to your car via the Nicholson Hollow trail
