Hello!
My name is Bradley, and my friend and I will be completing a five and a half day trek through Colorado's Gore Range northeast of Vail. If anyone in the Vail area would be willing to shuttle us on the morning of June 19th from our car at the Gore Creek Trailhead to the Piney River Ranch it would be incredibly appreciated. We will pay for gas and time, we would just prefer not to pay the $160 requested by the only professional shuttle service we could find in the area. Any other help finding transportation in this area or any other knowledge of hiking in this area would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!

Your best bet would be to thumb a ride with a passing sled dog team !! Do you know how much snow is up there in June ? Are you planning on snowshoeing or skiing ? Hiking/ Bp'g in the Colorado mountains normally starts in mid-July, a month later than your start date and everywhere west of the Divide got hammered big time this past winter. They're still skiing at A-Basin, a couple miles away ! Base is reported at 70", with 13" of fresh snow in the past 3 days. I live on the East Slope, and we're in a MAJOR drought, but I took this photo yesterday looking west to Rocky Mountain National Park, showing what a "drought" looks like. This was a trip over 4th of July, to the Holy Cross Wilderness, several years back on a "good" snow year. I'm deeply saddened that even a school like Cal Poly must not be teaching "basic research skills" any more.....

Snowshoes, to answer your question. I'm not keen on skiing, or assumptions. Cal Poly is a wonderful school, and I'm lucky to be a part of the second best architecture program in the country in my spare time between backpacking trips. You are welcome to join us, scuba gear and all.

Too Bad ! A- Basin ski area, just ~ 20 mi away across the valley from your route, just announced today they're extending their season into June, because of the fantastic snowpack ! Snowshoeing during the day is one thing, but in June, I prefer not to have to sleep on 3'-4' of wet, melting snow or risk a stream crossing at full flood-melt stage.

How about this ?? Though a dog sled would be much cheaper..... Two hikers rescued via Blackhawk SAR helicopter this past weekend in the Tenmile Range. Your destination, the Gore Range, is all of the snow covered peaks in the background just a few miles to the north. Have you been researching New Mexico ? Source
