Awesome! Great trip, great TR, great photos.
My wife and youngest son don't BP, but I've had the pleasure of a couple trips with my other two kids together (now in their 20s). It's awesome.

Yes, great report and pictures.
I've only been to Mineral King and the Sierra Nevada once. But, it's a good short story.
It was 1982 and I had met a girl in community college who hiked and backpacked. She talked me into going on a 9 day hike starting at Mineral King. (Don't remember the details.) But, it was still early in the year, like in late April, and the creeks were wild and heavy from early runoff. So, we didn't go far and set up camp about 5 miles from the parking area in a flat spot near one of the creeks. We just hung out and did some day hikes and didn't do the backpack.
But, on one of the days, we were walking back towards the car when we saw someone coming our way on the trail. He was alone, not carrying any gear except a fishing pole and a bag. As he got closer, I got a little excited. I said to Ilene, I know who that is. A friend, she asked? No, I've never met him. That's Richard Brautigan, the writer. Who?
I explained about his novels and poetry, Trout Fishing in America was one as well as Dreaming of Babylon. Sure enough as he got closer, I knew I was right. Couldn't mistake his blonde hair and big mustache. I'm sure I had that look in my eye of recognition because he seemed a little cautious. All I could think of to say was, Sure is a lot of water around here. (Being from Tucson, it was the only humor I could think of.) He just said, Yep. He was intent on doing some trout fishing, I'm sure.
We didn't see him again. He probably found a place that wasn't so crowded. He was dead a couple of years later.

Rebecca:
Thanks for the full report. We've bailed on this route because of the fire, but hope to maybe try it next year. You've provided further motivation!

Thanks for the TR! I got the map the other day and followed your route. Never been to the Sierras, but its definitely on the list. So many ranges, so little time.

So many ranges, so little time. Yep. That's the way I feel about it.
