These aren't my feet. They are the feet of my nephew and niece from their very first backpacking trip. I guess it qualifies as a backpacking trip since all of wore packs and did spend one night on the trail. If I knew of a way to post these pics side by side I would to save space but alas I have no idea.

Coolkat , we love that spot, and are hoping to take the copilot(s) back when they are old enough to understand why mom and dad do... In the meantime I went back several years and found a pic to fit the thread from our Kiabab through Bright Angel dayhike. At the Grand Canyon, feet from Kolb Studio (possible pun intended)...

I'm somewhat jealous as the Grand Canyon is something I've never seen yet much less hiked it.

Feeling is mutual, as I would have loved to backpack some of the Superior shore again before we move south at the end of summer.

Ice Lake Basin train, Colorado ... One of the lakes. Hey, was that from the time I hiked with you there? On a saddle above Glencoe valley in Scotland. It already seems like too long ago.

Hey, was that from the time I hiked with you there? No, the hike we did was from the 4th of July trail head, in Indian Peaks Wilderness, to Elizabeth Lake. Ice Lake Basin is in SW CO. It already seems like too long ago. Yes, it does. I think I hear the Red Hot Chilli Pippers calling. Or perhaps that is Bruce Wallace or the Bonnie Prince.

In 2009 I pull a 9 day backpacking trip into the Citico wilderness and pass thru the South Fork "gauntlet" which chews up my leg. Boot of choice? Asolo Fugitive. On another trip in 2009 I pull a 12 day trip and hike the most rugged trail in the Citico called Brush Mt and rest in camp with my beloved camp shoes---Crocs. Sock of choice? Smartwool Mountaineer. I pull an 11 day trip to Slickrock Creek with its 12 crossings and so I stay in my crocs the whole way. Also in 2009 I pull a 6 day winter trip into the Bald River wilderness and have to cross Bald River in cold temps and so out comes the crocs. In 2010 I pull a tough 20 day trip in the cold but I start out with these supernifty Asolo 520s and think I've finally found a decent full leather backpacking boot. WRONG. In 2013 I pull an 18 day trip into the Cohutta wilderness and my vaunted Asolos pull apart like a cheap umbrella. Back to when the boots were decent I pull a 10 day frigid trip into Kilmer wilderness and one morning put on my frozen rock-hard 520s. Let's go back to 2008 and back to my favorite 3 season backpacking boot---Asolo Fugitives. Taken during a 7 day trip to Whiggs Meadow.
