Still thinking about this. May end up on a combination of forest service roads and trail. The recommendations for the High Uintas are the best bet so far. Recommend you minimize mileage to let's say 6-8 miles per day and maybe not go over a pass but get well into an alpine drainage. Trying to sort which is the best one. They would all be an out and back. Most loops would have a crux pass that my end for all time and eternity your partners willingness to go again. I think your mission is to execute a backpacking trip that results in a follow-on.

My suggestion would be to backpack in to a base camp and then do various day-trips from there. If you wife gets tires, she can simply hike back (downhill) to camp. Hiking is also a lot easier if you're not carrying a full pack, with several days food. I've been pondering about what may work based on your design inputs. All the low vertical elevation gain suggestions I have looked at our day hikes. LB has really provided the only viable solution. Get into a base camp and do day hikes. That strategy opens up a considerable variety of locations.
