Sciascia: If you don't find a hiking partner for the Wind Rivers don't let it stop you from trekking the range. Late August, early Sept is a perfect time to go. The Wind Rivers offer arguably the nation's best backpacking experience. Catch fish, take your dog, camp most anywhere, make a fire, and best of all no permits are needed. Just do it! I'll be leaving before you arrive, but agree with Trekkerman that you should go solo if necessary. If you need suggestions, you can provide your skill level and desired preferences in the Mountain States subforum.

Check the specifics on totality for the eclipse. Big Sandy Trailhead and Elkhart park TH will not experience totality. Green River Lakes TH will. Most of the eastern (Lander, Dubois) side on the range will experience totality. From what I've read the experience is all about "totality" and one shouldn't miss the full show. There's a possibility I'd do one or two nights at Ross Lakes with Whiskey Mt. hike AFTER the eclipse crowds have left. If that or a dayhike interests you let me know.
Trekkerman, good to see you!
Backcuntrypost.com is a Utah based site with LOTS of Wind River Traffic. You should definitely make a visit. Also look up "My Own Frontier" on Youtube. Joey does great treks everywhere including the Winds.
