I noticed that this one popped up in a recent thread. Heard about it a few years ago, sounded really nice, but I've never been near it.
This might - might - be the year I finally get there. 3-4 days, it looks like. I know nothing about that general area, and spring is already slipping away, but I don't know how late I can go before the heat/humidity/bugs get to be a major annoyance. Then, there's always the fall season.
Anyone got any recent info on it?

Just on part of it the other week. Great trail, good shape, challenging. Lots of views, some waterfalls. I never found the BFT to be particularly oppressive when it comes to bugs although mosquitos and deerflies can be annoying, but humidity can be an issue. When to go? Mountain laurel begins to bloom 2nd or 3rd week of June, forest becomes cotton candy. Fall colors 1st or 2nd week of October. Tons of other hikes in the area, and many other long trails. Pine Creek Gorge area is beautiful and has an awesome rail-trail if you like to ride bikes.

The time to hike would depend on your tolerance to humidity. I would never plan a strenuous hike around here in July or August. I've bailed on 2... never again.

Thanks. Hopefully I'll get there mid-June or earlier. If not, there's always the fall season.
I don't like humidity, but I handle it a lot better than mosquitos/black flies/deer flies/horse flies/etc.

I'm trying to free up the schedule for the 3rd week of June to get up there...but the fates are conspiring against me. I really would like to see the woods in Mountain Laurel bloom!
