Interesting area,I guess that is part of the Allegheny/Cumberland Plateau on the west flank of the Appalachians. As close as I have been to that area is Lynchburg,Tn. touring the Jack Daniels Distillery...

You've explored places on my to-do list. Glad you enjoyed your time in AL! Great pictures! As for the hemlocks, our scout district just planted some even farther south in Oak Mountain SP as a conservation project. The guy leading the project knew they grow in the Sipsey, so he convinced the powers that be at Oak Mt that they'd do well there too. Time will tell.

I thought you'd like the Walls of Jericho.... Interesting area,I guess that is part of the Allegheny/Cumberland Plateau on the west flank of the Appalachians. As close as I have been to that area is Lynchburg,Tn. touring the Jack Daniels Distillery... Yes, it's part of the Cumberland Plateau.....which extends well south of Birmingham Al....During the mid-nineties, I lived for awhile in Scottsboro...and spent a fair amount of time in that area.....funny, but there seems to be more rattle snakes in that area than anywhere I've been east of the Mississippi....well, except for maybe N. Florida.....

N. Florida has similar karst topography but prairies, swamps and flatwoods rather than gorges, cliffs and waterfalls. In S. Florida I am more likely to encounter cottonmouth(known as water moccasins further north). I have encountered a few rattlesnakes often during controlled burns but nowhere near the encounters in the Central Virginia Appalachians.

Beautiful pics! WoJ is one of my favorite day hike locations. It's been a while since I've seen the falls flowing that strong.
