Hey everyone. Just for fun...Our astronomy club puts patches on our jackets from parks we have visited for our "Out There" Astro/Geo/Archeo trips. Do any of you iron/sew patches on your packs or windbreakers or such from parks you have hiked or backpacked in?

I used to sew patches onto my first external frame jansport pack. When they started making packs from nylon type materials, i stopped.

My first thought is 'added weight' from a gram weenie.

I sew some on duffel bags. Makes them real easy to spot at airport luggage claim. If it's got the national flags of Chile, St. Lucia, Madagascar, Antigua, Bolivia, Belize, and Yosemite, or some other places I've been, it's probably mine. The duffels are for non-backpacking trips.
No patches on my backpacks.

I take the gram-weenie approach to patches on my backcountry backpack. I have a Canadian flag (surprised?) on a small day-pack that I use for lightweight urban/Euro backpacking.

Not so much for sewing patches on packs, but... Stickers on bear can is another story.

I have an old pack that has duct tape patches on it. Does that count?

I got one when I thru-hiked (mostly) the River to River Trail, sewed it to the detachable cover of my ancient top loading Kelty pack. It now gathers dust in my basement.

I have some great patches and pins. They reside in a straw basket. Never found a pack worthy of mounting them on.

I can't remember if it started in boy scouts or it was just a right of passage that was passed down to me and my friends in the early 90s, but everyone used to sew patches to their backpacks.

I'm planning to,but have never gotten around to putting patches on the day pack that I use for trail maintenance. It is a beat up but rugged Lowe Alpine pack that is small in volume but is beefy enough to carry heavy loads.

I'm shopping for a Canadian Maple leaf patch for my overseas travel pack.
Nothing on my main trail pack.
