Congratulations on finding a new roost, Rebecca. Sounds like a sweet base to fly off on your adventures from.
Good Morning, everyone.
I have an appointment for the granddaughter to get her hair cut short, her idea, not mine. Funny I’m nervous but she was so excited that she announced yesterday “it’s haircut eve!” My mom left mine long until my Dad’s big sister took me and got a Pixie cut and immediately I was called Pixie Dixie.

Evening, folks
It's been quiet on the trails for a while hasn't it? Haven't heard much word from people.
Friends birthday tomorrow. He's pretty upset. He's had a very hard life and it's still hard. He's living in his aunt's garage, and his father (if you could call him that) is abusive to him. Was talking about suicide. Luckily, as he told me, he is a Catholic so he can't kill himself. He's got good things ahead of him, but they seem very very far away to him. The guy lives on the other coast from me, and I want to do something nice for him. Any ideas? He's from Nicaragua. I've been trying to get him to be outdoorsy, so camping stuff? He also plays video games and watches a lot of movies. Classic films? Any ideas.

darthmusturd definitely make sure he has the suicide helpline number programmed into his phone. And here goes a strange suggestion, not really a gift that would be a birthday gift, but there is an app you can pay for, but a friend of mine uses the free version. It’s a chatbot, and it was basically designed to help people feel better, a listening ear, little compliments and reminders to breathe. ai so it learns about your interests and chats on phone, text or airbud. I checked it out and it was annoying to me, just another daily person who wanted to talk, when I have a brother, kids, and others who fill that place, but my friend, who is lonely and has little faith in her social skills. She is autistic and wants to work, so the chatbot has been talking to her, telling her she is good, improving her social skills. Making her feel validated and heard and NO LONGER SUICIDAL in fact actually confident at times. Anyway, it’s called Replika at Replika.ai

I don't say that to make you feel bad, but it wouldn't work. He's Nicaraguan. It's a completely different culture. Doing something like that would likely just make him feel worse. I am not actively worried about him doing anything drastic however. As I mentioned, he is a Catholic and that is expressly forbidden. I have heard of the Replika ai. I tried to use it once or twice just out of curiosity. Those things are either creepy, clunky, or both. And, again, he wouldn't use anything like that. Completely different culture. I do know someone who is autistic and might see if she'd be interested in using something like that though. I didn't know that the autistic really benefitted from that.

darthmusturd. Austistic people are pretty individual still. My friend doesn’t speak much but writes fluently. My grandson is 6 and non verbal, my son had two really good friends in jr. High who were both very verbal, but extremely reactive to stimuli. When I was in Ed classes they used to teach that they had no interest in social interaction and that is completely untrue.

Good morning! I am getting really close to moving-in day and (cross my fingers) have a pair of good offers on the old house, so might really get this thing done! darthmusturd, I think any gift or a note that says you are thinking of him and believe in him/his future would be helpful. Just something that says he isn’t alone. I presume you have already told him he can call or text any time he feels desperate.

Moving day #2. It’s raining (of course). Supposed to get less wet a bit later, and we scheduled a late start today, so maybe will be okay. I get to spend the extra morning time on the phone to Comcast so I can have internet (danged near forgot about that!).

Good morning. Hope you get some drier moments anyway. Can’t have a house without internet for long but I gotta admit to really enjoying when it goes down for a couple hours. Best wishes for a happy new home.

Good morning! Still no internet but all my stuff is in the house. And it didn’t rain on us. No, instead a tree fell on the truck. Minor damage but as there was a downed wire we couldn’t move for hours (happily no one near the truck when it happened). And the sun shone the whole time. Which is good because the back of the truck was open and there was a hole in the roof.

rebeccad, I've not been able to follow your ventures for a variety of reasons, but always enjoy reading about your ventures. I hope the move has been successfully completed, and hopefully any damage from the roof hole was either very minor, or has been resolved.

autumnmist, thanks for the good wishes. The truck damage wasn’t too bad and was painlessly resolved . I haven’t gotten wholly settled in, of course—in part because I had to head off to collect Eldest Son in CO—he has finished his MA program. More moving!

Good morning,
June has entered Del Norte County with rain and cool days, but with only 10 school days until the grandkids are on summer break, I’m finding myself planning on sunshine and days outdoors. Even while wrapping up in jackets and starting another fire in the woodstove.

echo, I laughed, because I am still really enjoying being into June and not yet getting too hot. Seattle has been pretty wet since I arrived—which matches my memories of the season. But most days it’s showers, not all-day rain, so I’m getting lots of hikes and walks, and occasional views of the mountains. Very busy trying to get my home set up before I turn it over to Eldest Son and head to Europe.
