Good morning It is that amazingly sunny type morning when everything has been washed and is still dripping from a week of almost non stop rain, but the earth is steaming and the puddles are reflecting light and even the trees are gleaming. I took my coffee out on the back patio and am feeling rested and accomplished after last week working on my Pompeii novel again for the first time in forever and finally getting someone to talk to me at UCSF. I GOT THE REGISTRATION DONE AND GOT A MYCHART so I am actually a genuine patient of a real motion disability and neuromodulation center. I have an appointment and the new patient coordinator gave me orders to bug her every day about cancellation and getting in sooner. She was so nice to me I want to bake her cookies and send flowers and HUG her.
Have a great weekend, and when you turn your clock back, use that extra hour to do something nice for yourself.

So I got a new chain. And the weather is cooperating this week to allow bike commuting. Only to find out that when I'm in my most-used gear, the chain skips on my rear sprocket. I have a feeling a new cassette won't be as cheap as the new chain.

Chilly bike commute this morning (28F), but at least I'm still riding in mid-November.
ETA: My ride home started at 4:00 in dusky light due to cloud cover, and ended an hour later under bright moonlight. (Yes, I have head and tail lamps)

Nov 17, still riding my bike to work. But this could be the last day of the year. Wet weather the next few days, then a bit of snow. I stop riding once they salt the roads and plow even more debris onto the shoulders.

Good Morning here. 7 AM and the sky is pink with the sunrise. We have had so many rainy days that having a sunrise is very novel.
I’ve never lived where they salt the streets. In Wyoming they used sand, which was kinder to the car undercarriage and here the roads don’t freeze until we get up in the canyon about ten miles and then I guess they just rely on the car accidents to slow traffic down.
I read the reviews on the neurologist I have the January 10 appointment wit( and they are so warm and positive I’m not going to try to get someone else sooner.
This month I have been writing. It’s an amazing feeling after trying several times and not being able to focus. I’m not doing the goal of 50,000 words in a month that is NaNoWriMo but instead just saying I have to spend at least two hours a day either researching or writing, something about the novel. So the first couple days were not writing at all.

Good Morning! I love this time of year, someone I haven’t heard from in awhile always turns up with good wishes. This year we have a lot of great weather for getting kids outside and time off from school. I’ve gotten the first holiday card in the mail and had a lot of reasons to smile. The “Pacific” really has lived up to its name the last few days, and looks more like a big lake

Welcome to December. Good Morning here. It’s been warm and lovely still, so after getting the girl from school, we went out to Lake Earl and Lake Tolowa. Until she felt it for herself she didn’t believe the water could be cold. PE had “nearly melted” her. Anyway, the fresh air revived here and soon she was dancing by the water. Have a good day.

echo, the first photo of the Pacific is really beautiful, and spectacular... a contrast of peaceful waters vs. rugged rocks. Thanks for sharing!

Hi, y’all! I’m home . Jet-lagged, disoriented, and only half done with the laundry, but home.

Good morning, Glad to see you back, and jealous as all get out of your trip. rebeccad. I have a friend who runs search and rescue dog teams in Nepal, and between his pictures and GaliWalker trip reports, Nepal looms large in my areas of fascination. autumnmist, that smooth Pacific this time of year is the absolute perfect time to go looking for whale spouts. Most of the year they blend into the spray from the waves crashing against the rocks here but when it is like this they just hang in the air for long, very visible moments and the back of the whale catches the sun and reflects it like a mirror.

echo , that must be such an exciting and stunning sight to see the whales. Can you see them w/o binoculars?

autumnmist. Easily. Although once a mom and baby grey whale swam up our river and we went on a jet boat down by them, then stood on the bridge and watched them circle underneath. That was the best view.

Hey, good morning, y’all! The clan is gathering… Eldest Son came home from grad school yesterday. He still has some work to do in the next couple of days, including grading… kind of gave me a twist, remembering Dave always with his pile of grading at Xmas break (and any other breaks… he hated grading and was a champion at putting it off). ES was just a TA for the semester, so I don’t expect it to be an on-going thing with him

Good morning. I think I get to get into some snow today. Driving my husband over the hill to have his other knee replacement surgery tomorrow. I love the canyon and I love driving and snow, so it sounds ok. His last couple surgeries went well, so I’m less nervous than before. Also I’ve been getting to the school Pre Christmas activities with the granddaughter including a trip “to the North Pole” or the “Tolowa event center” as it’s known during other seasons, yesterday. Then we have had the tree up for a week but actually pit on the lights and decorated it last night.
