autumnmist As a responsible parent, we had him fixed a long time ago, as soon as the vet thought it prudent. If he is visiting other cats, at least it won't lead to more cats.

zeke, I'm glad the furble (fur ball) came home. You would be in such trouble if anything happened to him, plus I like cats autumnmist Skipping the ice maker is a good frugal choice. They make the fridge more expensive to start with, and are statistically the part of a fridge most likely to break. I never really wanted one, but I have one now. I admit it's handy in summer when it's hot and I want cold drinks all the time. But I really don't get the built-in dispensers and things, since they really eat up storage space (the ice maker takes only a little more room than the old stack of trays, but unlike the trays you can't take it out when you need extra space!).

rebeccad , thanks for the insight and advice. My sister had an ice marker in her frig; it was there when she bought the house. It was convenient, but it was also a concern because it was an extra something that could break down. I was shocked at the prices of frigs, even at the low end of the range. I'm surprised they haven't been designed to play music, eliminating the need for stand alone radios. God forbid though that they ever incorporate smartphone features and take pictures. I'd have to hide my frig goodies, wear a mask when I opened the frig, or be embarrassed about sneaking in to get some snacks. And from what a friend tells me, they're not built to the standards of previous frigs, so might only last a dozen or so years, not the 41 years like my good old Amana. I'd rather have the space for food than an ice maker. I think appliances have become subject to the HGTV high end homes, remodels and other projects that just aren't realistic for some homeowners. That high end trend pushed by tv programs may have added revenue to the real estate, home furnishing and appliance industries, but certainly hasn't been beneficial for those not in that income bracket. A few weeks ago I decided to play games with yet another "I wanna buy your house, for ALL CASH!" jerks who've been pestering me, so I indulged in a conversation with one, just to see what she had to offer. She was paid by a flipper to locate and check out the houses, then pass the info along to him. Of course, she wanted to see the house, but I told her no one does until I get everything out that I want. (I was just playing along anyway, as I made it clear Vets, first responders, medical and educational personnel are the priorities, not flippers.) So she began asking questions, including how many bathrooms. She couldn't understand that the community is a lake community, like many in the county. They began life as summer homes and were upgraded to year round homes, but many are still about 800 - 900 square feet. I've decided that playing games with these people is kind of fun. The next time someone asks me how many bathrooms, I'm going to tell him/her that there's only one, and it's an outhouse, but there's room for expansion to accommodate 2 people. Then, if I can control myself from laughing at the anticipated silence, I'll comment that there's also no indoor water; it has to be pumped from the well. But that's good b/c it helps build arm muscles which they'll need to enjoy swimming at the lack, or if they have to drill a new well for water. I've been irritated by these pests who won't stop calling and sending letters, so this will be some way to have fun with them.

Ah, freezers, ice makers, and door dispensers. 3 of my favorite things about modern appliances. We have a side by side, and it works for us most of the time. The freezer section may not be wide enough to keep a store bought pizza flat on a shelf, but we never buy those anyway. If I looked at them in the store, they may be made to fit the side by sides, so not as large as I envision.
I like the ice maker, as I live in Florida and am looking for a cold fluid most of the day, every day. The door dispenser isn't required, but it does keep me from having to open the door, and thus probably saves some cold from escaping. I used to also own a small chest freezer and it allowed for bigger items to be kept frozen. We bought it so dozens of dozens of cookies could be kept until the seasonal party. We often had close to 100 dozen cookies, of about 17-18 different varieties. Most of them were freezable, so we started making them a month before the party.
Personally, I'd prefer a refrigerator that didn't have a freezer at all, and then a chest freezer for the garage. No such luck. This unit we now have came with the house when we bought it.

autumnmist. Yes those are the calla lilies that volunteered after I emptied a pot of dirt out there about twenty years ago. The stained “glass” is from a paint kit, sun catchers that the granddaughter got for her birthday. The rain flattened the lilies but there are flowers everywhere ATM.. Thursday is my 36th wedding anniversary and I’m uncomfortable with the very idea of this one. This is how long my mom and Dad were married before he died of esophageal cancer. I know it feels weird to think of being married longer than my parents. Our community hasn’t had covid-19 much. 3 cases then weeks later 1 more, but two weeks ago there was a protest and 4 new positives in the last two days. I am curious if your pink ground cover is similar to what covers the island at our lighthouse each spring. It’s a gift from Japan to our city, a stone cover that covers a .Japanese island as well

Memorial Day Weekend, and . . .?
Anyone have any good plans?
My oldest son is camping and has invited us up for the afternoon either Saturday or Sunday. I think we’ll drive up, see the grandkids, play in the meadow there and come on home.
The rest of the weekend, I got nothing.

Well, my good mornings are about to come to a screeching halt. M gets home Saturday about 2PM. I've had my mornings to myself since last Sat about noon. I've managed to get out of the house for my walk, or biking, by 8:30 AM. She'll want to come along, but wait until 10-ish. The first of June the animal shelter she volunteers at will re-open, so I'll get my morning back 3 days a week, at least.

hikerchick395 in hindsight we should have waited a few weeks, because our anniversary always falls while school is still in session. But we had a job in Custer State Park to start on May 25 and we had lied and told them we were married so that I could stay in the same dorm room, a joke that, the dorm was a CCC cabin with only three functional room and three with a collapsed roof. It was torn down as soon as we moved out mid September.

echo timing can be complicated later on. My sister got married in Yosemite (as did my husband and I...) theirs was a secret. In early April. He is a CPA so the first anniversary is quietly celebrated. They got "married" in a church ceremony in May. So they have two anniversaries a year. The May one is more convenient. Our wedding was planned a year in advance. Not a secret Yosemite wedding...we had to get rooms for all parents and aunts and uncles in the lodging. Us hardier folks took up six or so campsites.

There's been talk about reopening churches. On Sunday morning, I found His church wide open...

Major triumph: I got out and did a walk/jog before breakfast, which means before it got too hot to stick my nose outside. This leaves me free to do an indoor zoom-meeting weight workout with friends this afternoon. And yes, I am trying to exhaust myself. It’s the best medicine I have right now.

echo , apologies for not responding to your earlier question I am curious if your pink ground cover is similar to what covers the island at our lighthouse each spring. No, the mystery groundcover in my back yard isn't anything like that on the lighthouse grounds, and also in a few yards of local neighbors. I love those massive flows of color in spring; I think that's the next step for digging up my front yard and getting rid of the grass, moving toward a "no mow" lawn. The flower color blends so well with the foliage that it's hard to detect without getting up very close. After much searching (that was hard, looking at all those online sites with so many lovely flowers), I finally found what I think it is: It's either ajuga, bronze beauty style, but with deep pink flowers. It could also be lamium, but I don't think so. BTW, those cannas in your earlier photos are stunning; I've NEVER seen that so large. Do you feed them something special, like liquid seaweed, or do they grow large naturally in your area?

rebeccad , I admire your determination to be outside in this weather. It's now 90 with a heat index of 93, not a good way to end the month of May.
