Yesterday my pal Mtngrl and I headed off on another adventure. This time we went to the Brainard Lakes area to day hike to one of my favorite places, Lake Isabelle. It really isn't a lake, but a reservoir, which gets drained every August. I'm not sure why it get drained It's still a beautiful hike.
I stopped by Mtngrl's house at 3:45 a.m., and we were on our way. It's about 2.5 hours to the trailhead, and if you want a parking space, you have to get there early. Parking is very limited.
Early morning, heading up the trail
We saw this cow and calf along the way
The clouds look threatening, but there was no thunder, and it never did rain
The drained lake
Just for comparison, here's what it looks like when it is full
