The Monsoon has been so bad this summer, that it's been too cloudy to take out my telescope since mid June. It's finally been "clear"= cloudless for the past two nights and is supposed to be "clear" tonight as well. But NOOOOooooo....... The smoke is so bad here in Colorado, that I can barely see 3-5 miles. This is from NOAA: "CONTINUING WEST-NORTHWEST FLOW ALOFT ACROSS THE UNITED STATES IS LIKELY TO CONTINUE MOVING SMOKE FROM THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST FOREST FIRES INTO NORTHERN COLORADO OVERNIGHT. SMOKY CONDITIONS WILL DEVELOP OVERNIGHT UNDER CLEAR SKIES. A COLD FRONT OUT OF THE NORTHERN PLAINS WILL BEGIN MOVING INTO NORTHEAST COLORADO BY MIDDAY WITH INCREASING NORTHERLY WINDS THROUGH THE AFTERNOON. CONCENTRATIONS OF SMOKE THIS AFTERNOON OVER MONTANA ARE EVEN HIGHER THAN OVER WYOMING AND COLORADO...SO THE COLD FRONT MAY JUST USHER IN ADDITIONAL SMOKE TO CONTEND WITH IN THE AFTERNOON." It's been bad enough but now this big red blob is predicted to move in tomorrow !

You need a radio telescope.

Smoke is terrible here as well in Montana. Visibility is down to three miles at most in some places. But I'm afraid this is a glimpse into the future. Welcome to the new American west.

Smoky all day here, but generally at high enough altitude so we didn't have to always breathe it.

The smoke is down here in Colorado Springs, too, but considering what the PNW is dealing with, I can handle the smoke. I do feel for people who have respiratory problems, though. This has got to be hell for them.

We've been hazy for several days now, from Rough Fire smoke. But it isn't too bad, thankfully.

Very glad just now for our coastal spot and ocean fogs/breezes. No smoke problems here.
Now to see how long before I have 25 friends staying in my back yard :(

It's been bad in Salt Lake for a week. Sometimes you can even smell it.

Been sucking smoke for weeks now. We have major fires to the north and south of us. Spent most of the day inside with the air purifier cranked. We're hanging in there but I'm seriously considering taking the family on a vacation to get away from it for a week.

So that's what it's been. I was backpacking with my kids this past week, camping at a lake around 10,600'. Noticed the haze, but didn't know of any fires nearby. I wouldn't have thought it would be coming from the Pacific NW, but there we go.

Never seen it so dry and so many bad fires in all my years....50 something. Very scary.

Hack, hack ,wheeze ! The smoke is back big time and we barely aborted having to take my wife, an asthmatic, to the ER. She'd gone through her rescue inhaler during the last round of smoke and hadn't refilled her prescription, and when she called me this afternoon to tell me she was having problems breathing, I could barely hear her.
I drove back home as fast as I could, to get her refill from the pharmacy. Two puffs later and she was "right as rain" and exclaiming how nice it was, to be able to breath again.
Damn Smoke !!
