 it's been an incredibly tough season... I've avoided taking off-forest fire assignments, for family reasons, but also don't really want to be a PIO on a fatality, and I fear there will be more. Resources are tapped out.

Truly sad. My daughter just returned from Glacier and was in tears. Her favorite area near St Mary's is just a charred wasteland. I'm afraid this it the way it's going to be. Welcome to the new American west.

Wife and I got chased out of Lake Chelan area by the fires, so we went up to Ross Lake. Then got chased out of there. We ended up going down the road to the Noisy Diobsud Wilderness and hiked around. Now heading home, smokey in Portland.
