Forget it: at 2 lbs per liter I ain't carrying the water for that sort of route.
Plus once it killed Curiosity that planet was dead to me.

If that image is the ultimate backpacking trip, you could easily experience the same scenery in parts of Utah, Arizona or Nevada. No external oxygen supply required.

I'd love to backpack in any of those states. Yes, some of the landscape looks very similar.

The closest I've been to visiting another planet is Arches NP. Death Valley was a close second. East St. Louis was a pretty weird third. I like landscapes more than aliens.

Do I need a permit? If so can I just walk up and get one, or is there a waiting list? It's not like getting a permit for Yosemite Valley, is it?
