I just finished reading Walking the Amazon by Ed Stafford. He was the first person to walk the entire length of the Amazon. Along the way he has trouble with indigenous tribes, floods, lack of food, pit vipers, the jungle and much more. It's a good read and I highly recommend it. I downloaded the kindle version from mu local library.

Sounds like my kind of book. I just added it to my wish list.

Have either of you read The Lost City of Z? It's about a British explorer trying (and failing) to find a mythical city in the Amazon. Compelling and fascinating, but ultimately made me realize I have zero interest in ever setting foot in the Amazon jungle.

I have read The Lost City of Z and I thought it was good. Another excellent book set in the Amazon is The River of Doubt. It's the true story of an expedition led by Teddy Roosevelt, after his presidency, up a tributary of the Amazon. It's a very good book full of adventure and suspense.

A few years ago I was fascinated as I watched the documentary (on History Channel or the like). I'll have to get the book. Thanks.

Haven't read Ed Stafford's book (Walking the Amazon) but I followed his diary blog from 2008 through to the finish as he made the walk and was able to update it. I think it can be seen in its entirety on his website at www.walkingtheamazon.com/An admirable achievement! I found the 'Lost City of Z' a fascinating easy read too. Recommended. There has also been a movie put out in 2016 about Fawcett's fated expedition (same title as book) Haven't seen it as yet.
