I'm looking to do the Elk River trail near Elk City & Independence in March. My first choice would be to do it one way over two days. (It's about 15 miles.)
I know this is a longshot, but anyone have any ideas about a shuttle? I live in Kansas (a few hours away), but I don;t have any contacts in that area of Kansas.

My wife and I spent our first married year in Longton, Kansas where I was a 7th and 8th grade teacher. That is about 25 miles west of Independence. We live about 3-4 hours south of there now, but I'll consult with her. She might be convinced to "let" me go up there and get in some hiking. I'm 66 years old slow though, so we might want to hike on our own agenda, but meet up for the evenings and a shuttle. What dates?

I'm 52--my 25 yo son may or may not be with me. It would have to be that week because that is my spring break. (I'm a professor.) A loosely coordinated trip as you describe could be possible, or, another possibility is to hike one way in opposite directions and trade car keys in the middle.

Dang it, my spring break is the week before that. (I'm a school librarian).

A week-end would be doable.

A week-end would be doable. Possible, but a long-shot. I doubt I'd have a weekend free any time between now and then. Sorry.
