Is the down in an old Comfy brand sleeping bag affected (degraded) by sitting for 20 years in a garage ( with 110-116 degree Las Vegas Nevada summer heat)? My father-law's estate is being dissolved and I now own the bag... should I have it cleaned? Just not sure how down reacts to being stored in summer heat - I know fabric really degrades in that kind of heat.
Any thoughts to share?

The fabric sleeve could be (not likely though) but I can't see why the down would. Give it a good shake or three and see if it fluffs up. If not you could always wash it yourself in a tub . Not all that difficult to do. (it does take several rinsing and some care moving it about when wet) something like this : www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvc51QmCO44(not my video...)

As long as it wasn't exposed to sunlight for prolonged periods of time and it doesn't sound like it was, it'll probably be alright. Do like franco said and wash it and ee what you end up with. Might be a find although I'm not familiar with the brand.

Hi Franco, Thanks for the opinion. The bag seems to fluff up nicely- no identified temperature rating for the bag, but it looks to be about a 20° bag. . I have several high-end bags (marmot), including some 0° and sub zero ratings . However, they have always been properly cared for, and stayed in the house, in temperature controlled climate. I just wasn't sure that heat might break down the actual feather/down- make it brittle and break more easily. Anyway, thanks very much for the prompt post .

Hi hikerjer I did minor research on the brand. Comfy was a part of the Seattle Quilt Company, making goose down bags since 1915. Got acquired and quit production in the mid-1990s. Thanks for your input.

Washing instructions: www.mountainwarehouse.com/expert-advice/how-to-wash-a-down-sleeping-bagIf you wash it by hand, take care not to be too rough squeezing out the water. You don't want to tear the internal baffles. For drying, I would suggest hanging it the hot sun or laying it out flat for a few hours go get rid of most of the water, the throwing it in the dryer on low heat with a few tennis balls to loft it back up.
