So there has been an interruption in visitation to the forum for me... A lot of it had to do with work. Some of it had to do with prioritization. The initial interruption took me off forums for quite some time...
In short, because the whole story would probably be a novel, and no one cares that much, I had a sudden pain in the lower right quadrant of the abdomen. Which if you have any medical training you know that could mean so many things that could be bad, so you can understand why I was in the ER just half an hour after awakening to find myself in a kind of pain I'd never felt before....
It was supposed to be one thing after the other, they kept guessing kidney stone or cyst or appendix or or or -- And then a CT scan resulted in something else being discovered in a different body part. And then when I was finally released there were many follow up appointments. Being self employed and inundated with doctors lodging opinions and repeatedly running tests takes up a lot of brain activity - things like online conversations about tents sort of take the backseat.
So now, months later, the original thing (whatever it was, no idea to this day whether the pain was related to the lung issue) is long gone and not repeated itself, the lung consolidation is resolving on its own per the fourth CT (one more and I will take a spider in with me and become Spiderman!) and doctors are also now treating things I had been tolerating because it was minimally bothersome (eczema runs in the family, but wow, it's nice that it's going into remission, or resolving, or whatever) and business is booming (because, well, medical bills plus student loans make AT a busy girl).
But normalization is happening, so I'm back.
With a new perspective on how the medical industry has changed. Not for the better.

Wow! Glad you are back and well on your way to recovery of good health. No, I am really really really glad you are regaining health because without it ... well it isn't as much fun.
Funny you mention eczema because it runs in my family also, both sides. I always kinda just used the hydra-cortisone creams and still do. But I developed hand eczema and that was a game changer.
Anyway about tents, have you considered a Z-Packs tent or the new models of Tarp Tents?
Rumi <~~~~~ not normalized
PS: Really really really really glad you are getting better. *bighealthygrins*

Thought I had ticked you off. Sorry to hear about your health issues and glad to read you are on the mend.
Cheers, peace and love, johntp.

It sounds like a frustrating, worrisome and unpleasant experience. I hope it all fades into a distant memory before long.

Glad to hear from you. You were missed. Sorry it wasn't some exotic vacation that took you away from here.

Facing that kind of uncertainty with repeated medical appointments and diagnostic treatments can really sap the energy from anyone. It can create almost a hold on life, until you know what caused it, how to treat it, and be comforted in the knowledge that you probably averted what could have been more serious had you not sought medical treatment so quickly.
I'm glad that you're moving forward and hopefully the issues are under control. Welcome back!

It sucks getting old. You're are a strong person and I always thought it would be cool to hike with you. Hope you get some trail time soon.
I also suffer from chronic skin problems. I'm always itching to get out on a trail.

For all you know, you have hiked with me... I haven't stopped hiking either, through all of this. We're going snow camping this weekend. I did prioritize...
Thanks, guys, for the welcome back....
Rumi, I have a couple of Tarptents, but use a Lightheart Gear for solo efforts, the Tarptent Cloudburst for my big bf and myself. The newer TTs are interesting but in a family with three hammocks, two tarps, six tents, not likely to indulge in that or in ZPacks any time soon...
johntp, you did not offend. I think the reverse was likely true, though, as I've now read back a bit, and I apologize for that. None was intended. I admit that the brusque online persona that started to develop in the late 80s has continued to get me into trouble over time. Especially as I lack the time to rewrite things until I am sparkly clear some days, but persist in participating...
zeke, I surely paid more than I would have on an exotic vacation -- it sucks to have to resort to hospitals. Had it been anything else I would have toughed it out and gone to urgent care, for sure.

johntp, you did not offend. I think the reverse was likely true, though, as I've now read back a bit, and I apologize for that. No worries on my part and no offense taken. I was raised to have a thick skin and speak my mind. I can butt heads without taking it personally. Just glad you are back on the forum and posting up. Stay warm on your trip.
