My wife and I switched over to a Sawyer-mini sometime this past summer. The prefilter mod does not fit the mini so we were doing back flushing in the field. We, also, use the Quick-connect kits on our water bladders. This made the mate up with the back flusher and the mini awkward.
I got another quick connect kit. The tube in the kit fits onto the plunger and the quick connect fits into the tube. I pulled water into the plunger, with the quick connect attached, connected the quick connect to the mini connector, and did a back flush on the mini. I was able to apply a strong force to the flunger, without experiencing any leakage from the plunger-mini meeting point.
ETA:
I back flushed both minis and squeeze filters. I also tested them for flow and I do declare the filters flow is quite fast.

Ohm, I carry the syringe on most trips, but have never needed it in 5 years of use. A few times, when scooping water out of ponds, I've run the water through a paper towel, coffee filter (preferred), or a Buff, to remove larger pieces of sediment. I don't gravity filter with the mini. Is it possible running the dirty water through under pressure (squeeeeeeze) keeps it from plugging up? I'm thinking of a gravity set-up, is why I ask.

We encounter a lot of algae in the water.
When we used the Sawyer Squeeze, with the prefilter mod we did fine. This past summer we switched over to the minis as weight savings. We finally figured to use the bandana as a prefilter but not till after we had them clog up on us.
By clog, I mean reduced flow rate. We did not have the minis, actually, stop up.
When in camp, typically, we use, with the quick connects, the Sawyers as a gravity filter.

Thanks. We rarely encounter algae, that would explain the differing experiences. I'll have to look at the Sawyer with the pre-filter to get an idea of how that works.
