This has been a bit of a hot topic with some of the folks I know. I imagine there are a few former service types on the forums and I was just curious how many of you still sport your old uniform boots. I personally have a couple pairs of old Oakley boots that get out on the trails with me as often as the newer purpose built shoes. At a local outdoors store I got a mini lecture about how aweful they are supposed to be for my feet, but they are just so dang comfortable and have held up to what I can only imagine is close to a thousand real miles of abuse. And I actually can't recall my feet hurting after a hard day wearing these, ever.

I have the cold weather Bates that I still wear when hunting, but on the trail I don't break the boots out. I put on lots of miles wearing a variety of boots in the Army, but I tend to appreciate the lighter hiking shoes and boots that I have now. HYOH, if they are comfortable for you then drive on.

I know people who like their Danners. Expensive, but good boots.

You've beautifully illustrated the point that it doesn't matter what kind of boots/shoes they are or who makes them - if they fit and you like wearing them, that's all that really matters.
But I gotta say it was really liberating when I finally got a good pair of light low-tops.

The pictured boots have an advantage over most high-tops because the fabric uppers are more flexible than the typical thick, stiff padding of most commercial boots. They don't impede mobility as much and they're a bit lighter for the same amount of coverage.

I still wear my old boots almost daily. Like you i've been told how terrible they are for me but also like you i've put so many hundreds of miles walking, rucking, and the like in them they just fit better than anything else. I don't know about wearing them for some longer trips but I'll wear them till they fall apart.
