Yes, I've had a pair of Red Wing Irish Setters for about 30 years; resoled 2-3 times.
I really appreciated that they were available in a 'B' width.
The uppers are in pretty bad shape now; so won't resole them again.

Light hikers are very similar. I used Moab ventilators for a decade (went through several pairs). Feet started hurting, so the lady at REI - Arcadia (Pasadena) promised me Oboz would help at just a tad more $ ... and they have. They are all similar construction. That said, looking at resolvable options too with 5.10 approach shoes..

Like everyone says, pick what fits and feels the best. I have a pair of the Keen Targhee II that I have been using for the last year or so. For me they fit and feel great and I can vouch that they are super, super tough.

That said, looking at resolvable options too with 5.10 approach shoes.. I love my 5.10 approach shoes. They are very sticky, so one needs to be careful with foot placement.

How about leather stitched boots? Are they throw-away as well? It depends. I've found that boots that have a box toe with a seam down each side (such as the one below) will come apart on the outside seam. Seems like it's a design flaw. Some that only have a seam on the inside of the feet may last a bit longer.

Ok, so I tried these on yesterday: www.danner.com/women/hike/women-s-mountain-600-4-5-brown-red.html I was looking for waterproof hiking boots (yes, I know, waterproof, haha until the water runs into the boot) for hiking here in Oregon. I like the way they feel. They were a bit cozy with my wool socks on around the sides of the balls of my feet, but thought perhaps it would loosen up a bit with use due to it being leather. I also was amazed at how light they were. Haven't purchased them yet. Was wondering if anyone on here has worn a pair?

I love these kinds of ridiculous surveys or posts from various experts - not directed at you, higuy11 but at the guys who publish this kind of stuff. There are no "best" of anything. Only what works best for you. I suppose such things can serve as a guide or beginning point, but ultimately trial and error and finding out what fits works for you is the only way to find what's best for you. What's best for me, may well be a disaster for you. Best to keep an open mind.
