Howdy everyone - first time poster!
my friends and I would like to backpack the Beaten Path in MT, late august, early sept, probably around labor day weekend.
we'd be flying into Billings, then headed for an overnight stay in Red lodge before we hit the trail at Clarks Fork TH.
We plan on hiking from south to north to the East Rosebud TH.
Would love any info with regard to
weather that time of year
Recs for itinerary - how much mileage/ which lakes to camp at - we plan on doing it in 3 days, possibly 4.
Shuttles/transport to/from trailheads - we haven't decided if we are going to rent a car. Currently have a text out to red lodge taxi about transportation, haven't heard back from them - any other info/options would be appreciated!

Welcome, used2fixdk.
Be sure to check out the regional forum pages for that area. Someone will chime in with info.

I hiked it South to North this past August. Very beautiful, aggravatingly crowded, something I'm not used to here in Montana.
As to weather, be prepared for snow around Labor Day. It may not snow, but it certainly could.

When I was growing up in Cody, my Dad kept track of the first day of snow in the mountains around there. It was never later than Sept. 15, but I also had snow on my birthday in the Beartooths (July 9) and one 4th of July we watched the USA Olympic downhill ski team practicing up there. It has been a very snowy winter so far there yet August can be hot and buggy.

be prepared for snow around Labor Day You may also experience beautiful "Indian Summer" weather, but good advice....it WILL get chilly at night. The good news is that there is much less risk of summer thunderstorms. and HOWDY!
