Hi All.
I'm Becki, I'm new here, hello!
I have read through some of the threads online but still overwhelmed by all the information.
I’m off to Iceland on a 2-day marathon trek on the 30th August over the Laugavegurinn Trail for a challenge and have a large kit list to build up over the next few months ready for training. The main thing is that will be very important is a waterproof jacket which needs to be breathable, lightweight and holds against wind and rain if it happens.
I want to make sure I have the correct kit, but also worried about overthinking things as it's not like I'm going into -30 conditions, but don't want to be caught out and in trouble its wrong.
We will be hiking up hills/rocky terrain and generally at a moderate pace for 10-14 hours.
I’m not really sure what the minimum requirements are for the waterproof jacket? I've only been doing hiking in the UK for the past year, but nothing as big as this.
Sadly I can’t afford top end brands/cost but don't want to scrimp, I know it's very important! Hence looking now as there are lots of sales on.
Do we need to go higher than the following typical requirements that I've been looking on sites like tresspass / go outdoors.
Breathable - 5000mvp - is this enough, would this still be comfortable when hiking/moving quickly
Waterproof - 5000mm. *should it be 8000-10000mm?
Windproof - Yes
Taped seams - Yes
I'd imagine also needs to be lightweight so i can pack away.
I have been wearing a waterproof shell jacket, but get quite hot in it, that one is 3000mvp and 8000mm, however, doesn't have taped seams.
Is there anything else I should be looking for? It needs to allow me to have a padded down jacket/fleece underneath, which should be easy enough for me to choose as this just needs to be lightweight and warm.
Iceland in august typically is 8 degrees, but can get very cold and windy when high up, i'd expect rain also and I'd expect temperatures to drop at night.
Advice appreciated, in conclusion, i'm looking for help with what i need to look for when choosing a jacket.
Thankyou.
Becki
