Anyone else track their info? I run SHealth app on my phone. My count for 2016 was:
Step Count:
4,067,616
Miles:
1,978.54
May next year be better. I spent half my summer with viral bronchitis, and that lowered my numbers.

Not steps, but I track everything else: miles run, miles hiked, time and distance cycled, and miles swum. Guess it's time to do the stats--since I'm low-tech it takes some time and effort to add it all up.

Guess it's time to do the stats--since I'm low-tech it takes some time and effort to add it all up. It's one reason I love SHealth app so much (it's by Samsung, but supposedly will work on many other Android phones). I've used it for about 1 3/4 years now. It'll track walking, running, hiking, etc along with steps. I can have it track yoga, gym workouts and more. So very versatile! The step counting (and miles) is automatic. It works even with the phone on airplane mode. I do have to pop the app open and turn on the other workouts, or add them in later manually, but not a big deal. It also has Couch to 5K on it and even food charting. Sorry, will quit frothing. LOL!

I used to, but now that I am semi-retired I just make sure I get some exercise every couple of days. I still track bike miles and trail miles...

My company gave me one of the first generation wrist Fitbit's as an award. But it is still unused in packaging. Just have not made the time and am admittedly wary of the concept that requires wearing something on my wrist

I see 3,437,038 steps for 1,619.8 miles, but that only covers 6 1/2 months.

I don't haul my phone everywhere, so don't consider that a good way to track my activity. Pen and paper also means I don't delude myself into thinking that normal activities constitute a workout

I don't bother with either. I walk or hike every day at least 1 1/2 miles and most often much more. I don't keep a record because I do it every day. Outside. It's just part on me and I don't feel a need to keep track except that I did it. My current streak is since late 2015 when my new knee began to allow me. My wife is on a 9 1/2 year never missed a day hiking or walking outside streak. Hiking, I refer to maps and such and make sure I am where I want to be by a given time more-or-less. Some steps are shorter then others such as when going up a steep hill so, to me, counting steps is not imporatnt. I am not too hung up with the end and enjoy the journey stopping to smell the roses as some might say. Shoot, I don't have a watch or phone with me when hiking much less something to count steps. Not what I am about.

It's just part on me and I don't feel a need to keep track except that I did it. Tracking is for training. I keep track of running and biking, because I am usually building toward some goal (these days, usually something like riding a Century, or else getting fit enough to carry a pack up and down mountains) and need to know where I am to build carefully. I do tend to look at miles when I'm hiking, maybe as an ego thing, though it also helps me in planning, to know what I am able to do.

You might be surprised what tracking shows - and not just for training. My phone is always on me, in my side or back pocket. The key is it is a DAILY REMINDER to get off my butt, go stretch my legs and go outside. That alone is gold.If I hot bedtime and my step count is 3,000, I have failed big time. 10K and up is the goal.

I track my miles as best I can. The PATC puts out high quality hiking maps of the AT in the area, and I am able to make rough but somewhat accurate calculations of how much I hike.

I track miles, not steps - seems to me a lot of the people that count steps get a little nuts over it and start counting just about anything (including walking to the toilet, which you already do) - I prefer to track intentional exercise - just our 1 big dog-walk of the day (not shorter walks), hikes and swimming mileage.
I use the MapMyRun app which works well, and is linked to my BlueCross account for points (last year redeemed for 1 year of Adobe Creative Cloud and an air mattress!) as well as my gym account for points (redeemable for training sessions, swim lessons, merchandise, etc)

The overall step count can help a person see how little they move - and correct that. Don't underestimate that! If a person thinks they are more active than they really are, and suddenly see they actually only do 3K steps a day, that's a harsh eye opener. I don't wear a FitBit because arm movements can cause fake steps to be counted. The tracking of days and months can lead to better physical strength. It's easy to lie to ones self and not go walk - but if your phone tells you to get moving, you are more likely to do it.

I track close estimates of miles, just based on what a map says the distance is. I then put the info in a spreadsheet along with which main equipment I used on that trip (pack, shoes, trekking poles, shelter) so I can see how much use I've put on each piece of gear.
