I'm looking to get a new pair of boots, I've pretty much settled of the Salomon Quest series. I'm wondering if anyone has any personal experience with them and I'm also wondering if anyone knows the difference in the Quest 4D and the Quest Origins? The origins seems to be lighter and more focused on backpacking but I can't really find any info.

I own a pair of the Quest 4D boots. I find the boots have great traction over various types of terrian except seaweed covered rocks. Wearing the 4D boots for a 6 day trek with many dips in salt water did not damage the boots, as I thought it would. I find the boots to be supportive. I recomend, if you choose this boot, to be ready to output cash for an insole as the insole that comes with the boot is crap.

I've heard they were tough boots, I normally wear Merell but the SEALS using these pretty much sold me. But that surprised me about the in sole, on their website they brag about how great it is. I plannned on replacing them with superFeet anyway

So apparently the only difference is that the Origins have more leather on them, and actually just a few grams heavier. Would that be beneficial or no?

Perhaps. more leather would be better if the boots were worn in more snow. I cross snow patches and go on all snow day hikes with the 4D but I'd not use the 4D for winter backpacking and camping.

I've heard they were tough boots, I normally wear Merell but the SEALS using these pretty much sold me. A better question would be if they fit you well. Then you can ask about how much leather/waterproofing you want based on how you plan to use them. Brand comes last.

The military chooses to use lots of things that I would not consider to be good gear for backpacking, let alone my style of bp'ing. Just because the SEALS use them doesn't make it the best boot for you. You have the luxury of being able to try on many boots and choose the one that fits you best. The SEALS choose a boot for many properties, but individual fit is not one of them. If it is the only boot offered, there will be several SEALS who wear poorly fitting boots, and they will suffer for it.
FIT, fit, fit.

I knew it wouldn't take long for someone to get on here telling me to get the ones that fit best. These are the boots I'm getting I'm not asking for recommendations, I had already pretty much settled on these even before I saw the SEALs approval. I'm sure they'll fit just fine especially with the insoles I'll be using. If you have any information related to these boots then please let me know.

The orange ones are the best... ...as long as they don't leave skid marks on the gym floor.

I'll be sure to remember that 👍🏻 Don't take it to literally. tigger's referring to one of the more odd and epic meltdowns the forum has seen, and actually occurred during the previous [working] version of the forum.

more odd and epic meltdowns A meltdown by some goofball who didn't think fit was the most important issue when buying new boots.
