Hey there! I just joined after a wonderful Christmas, getting all sorts of new backpacking goodies. I am a frequent hiker, and live in the Monadnock region of New Hampshire, so there are plenty of day trails around of varying difficulty. A few years ago, I started my then 4-year old daughter on the trails with me and it has become something we have done together every spring and summer. I've wanted to try backpacking for years, but couldn't fathom leaving her at home while I went to the wilderness for days at a time.
This year, she turns 8 and we will be hiking the Monadnock-Sunapee Greenway together this summer! My husband is not much of a hiker, but supports me fully in this quest, and understands my dream that, if our daughter enjoys it, she and I will section-hike the AT together. What a great way to create memories!
So, I am here to learn, ask questions, and generally just soak up entertainment, information, and encouragement.

Welcome home young lady. May that trail rise up to meet you both.

Welcome from the Big Sky country. Stick around and you'll learn a lot here. The cumulative wisdom on these boards regarding backpacking and hiking is amazing. Concerning other topics though, it's highly suspect depending on your own view. But you'll like it here. Just don't take us too seriously all the time.

Welcome! I think it's great that you and your daughter will be hiking together!
Read around in the hiking with kids section for some advice, especially on how to help ensure that she does enjoy it!

Might be my iPad, but I can't find the "quote" button, so here we go....
Beets - No thanks. Nothing edible should be that shade of pink.
Kilts - I played field hockey in high school. Bring it on.
Bacon - all of the bacon
Brussels sprouts - best recipe: pan-fried with kielbasa, onions, garlic, and served with buttered pasta. Best recipe that won't give me a heart attack: quartered, oven roasted with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, onions, salt and pepper, and spread with just a hint of goat cheese
Scotch - no thanks, unless you're talking plaid
Okra - never had it, no opinion
Thanks for the welcome! I've read a bit already and you all remind me of my motorcycle forum. Can't wait to join in the fun!
