I'm getting ready to enjoy Kūčios and just wanted to wish everybody a wonderful Christmas Eve, Happy Hanukkah, or Blessed Festivus. To those with whom I have shared a hike or will at some point in the future, Happy Kūčios to you and all those you love. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K%C5%AB%C4%8Dios

That sounds like a nice tradition for the "gathering of the clans." Is there any special significance to cleaning the house and bathing on that day, beyond just good sanitation?
I miss those days when there were so many more family members alive and we had wonderful Christmas get-togethers. The food and camaraderie were wonderful.
it's nice that you're keeping the tradition alive and in practice.

And a Happy Kūčios back at you! We are having a bit of a gathering of the clan tonight. 14 for dinner. Good thing no one is too wide; the table is really only designed for about 8 That would be my in-laws, their 4 sons, 3 daughters-in-law, 3 grandsons, and 2 girlfriends.

Vesele vianoce! Just finished Viliga dinner (traditional Slovak variations on themes of cabbage, dough, poppyseed and mushrooms) at our house as well.

Happy Kūčios to you and everyone else still carrying on old family traditions. We are a Nation built on immigrants. I'm 2/3rd's 2nd gen German, 1/4 2nd gen Swedish, and a bit of Old English and Norwegian in the rest. Tomorrow will be duck stuffed with sauerkraut, Klasse ( a type of German potato dumpling), and sweet and sour carrots, the dishes from my childhood. I'm making my Brussels Sprouts casserole and a few other German styled sides that I've developed through the years as well but it's all about traditions.
