Yea. Tomorrow is one second less of daylight then today and, wait for this, the next day is three (THREE) seconds of more daylight. Yea!
First, I must get through the magic of the winter solstice. Albeit, at 4:44 in the AM where I live in northern MO. The solstice is magic time in the woods as I have observed other years. But, alas, early AM promoses to be a bit chilly and, mostly, early. So, the animals can dance and talk and howl, the stars sparkle closer and more brightly without me. Perhaps I'll bundle up to see and hear magic. Might just do such.

Hurrah! Here comes the sun!
I'm actually hoping for a real snowy Jan/Feb and then an early spring.
More sunlight is always appreciated though.

The days will start getting longer after tomorrow, but the sun will not begin to rise sooner until early January. Because of the earth's motion around the sun, there is a lag between the time the sun sets later in the evening, and the time it starts rising earlier in the morning. aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/RS_OneYear.php

Yeah, I'd heard the forecast was for less and less darkness in the coming days.
Although I hate longer fire seasons I'm part ways with Ron, I'm over with winter, but I'm over it now, before it's even started.
Burp. Excuse me.
You all have a great trip around the sun.

Because of the earth's motion around the sun, there is a lag between the time the sun sets later in the evening, and the time it starts rising earlier in the morning. The earliest sunset is usually ~ Dec 7. It's already setting noticeably later, but I hate the slow lag of latest sunrise.

Yes, the later sunsets have been apparent, but I am especially lucky because this time of year the sun dips into Pine Creek Canyon so is visible even longer. (Sets at about 3:40pm but would be about 3pm if behind the peaks.) People living south of us are in the shadow earlier, which is strange. That is only as far as having direct sunlight, though...we all get dark about 5pm now.

Indeed each day will now get longer. However at least for the next few weeks the additional minutes each day will be few. That is because the change in length of day follows a SINE WAVE function due to the Earth's axis tilt and circular orbit around the Sun.
That rate of change for December 21 is per the bottom of the waveform that changes slowest while conversely June 21 is at the highest point on the curve that is like slowest. And the spring and fall equinoxes when each day's length changes significant are per where the curve passes the 0 mid point lines at the highest change rate.
