I'm about 3/4 of the way through this book and can recommend it highly! About the Author Peter Wohlleben spent over twenty years working for the forestry commission in Germany before leaving to put his ideas of ecology into practice. He now runs an environmentally-friendly woodland in Germany, where he is working for the return of primeval forests. He is the author of numerous books about trees. Tim Flannery is a scientist, explorer and conservationist. He is a leading writer on climate change and his books include Atmosphere of Hope and The Weather Makers. This review on Amazon does a better job describing the book than I can: www.amazon.com/Hidden-Life-Trees-Communicate-Discoveries/product-reviews/1771642483/ref=cm_cr_dp_text?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=0&sortBy=helpful#R1QIQHRAZGRVN1

I've been wondering about this. Think I'll put in on my Christmas list.
Thanks for the recommendation. I love trees for "I think I'll never see a poem as lovely as" - oh never mind. You get the gist.

Thanks for pointing out the book Ron. I have a passion for reading books by experts explaining deeper understanding in natural sciences.
For those that would like to understand western US timberline landscapes and their trees at greater depth will highly recommended a 1984 classic on western US timberline trees:
Timberline: Mountain and Arctic Forest Frontiers 1984 by Stephen F. Arno
