Looks like I might get a chance to backpack in Honolulu this summer. All fingers crossed, a generous sprinkling of pixie-dust, and a penny-in-the-wishing-well hoping that it actually happens. So, any hiking suggestions for Honolulu? Or close by? I have never been to Hawaii - don't judge. Thanks, guys... And Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, or Bah-Humbug (whatever your holiday preference may be).

Lots of good day hikes, but little in the way of a true Backpack on Oahu. I can fill a week with good day hikes, but will hold off so you can tell me you really want day hikes.

OK. In no particular order: Waimano Trail near Pearl City 14 miles RT (in & out same path) 1600 ft gain to top of ridge overlooking the Windward side. Plan for 9 hours.
Poamoho Ridge near Wahiawa 6.8 RT 600 ft gain to one of the best views of the Pali. 5 hours.
Spend a day at Waimea Falls park Wonderful botanical gardens. Walk back to the falls. 2 mile loop. Well worth it. Swim at Waimea Bay when you finish, or watch the surfers on the North Shore.
Tantalus near Manoa 4 miles RT 500 ft gain Lush forested hill with plenty of bamboo. Tops out with a view of Nuuanu Valley, but is very popular. 2 hours
Diamond Head Every tourist should make this climb. 1.5 mile RT 2 hours, including gawking time. 550 ft gain
If any of this sounds like something you'd like to do, PM me and I will go into more detail Or, PM me a mailing address & I can send you a trail book or 2.

There are a couple of good BPs on Maui and the Big Island, if you can do the shuttle over to them.
