My only thought is that the Porter weighs 2.5 lbs less than the Weekender.

What is the purpose of the backpacks?
The Mother Lode would be good for carying items to school and around town where as the Osprey is better suited for a hike.

As a backpacker, I'm going to lean toward the Osprey for general build quality.

Well, our normal chant here is "fit, fit, fit". In this case, since you are mostly using it for a suitcase in the city, not sure fit even qualifies as a need. Get the one that holds all of your gear clothes, and looks cool. The ladies just love a nice pack.

I have the eBag and love it for travel. However, if I had any interest in using the bag for hiking, I'd go with the Osprey.
