They're dropping like flies. I just learned that Leon Russell passed while I was out on the trail.

Indeed those in my generation have been increasingly slipping away to eternity. Very sad reality to human existence. And yes as someone living that rock early 70s era in the SFBA I saw them live.

Another great one gone. And wow, I had forgotten "I Believe In Father Christmas". Another great bass player, Chris Squire, died last year. swimswithtrout and I might be the only ones here who know that.

Saw King Crimson once in a theatre in the round. Can't say for sure (youth, alcohol, drugs) if Greg was part of it then. Mid to late 1980s. I do think that Robert Fripp was in it at the time. One of my college friends, who went on to get a PhD in particle physics at Princeton and work at Fermilab, went with me. Chicks didn't really dig us (surprise).
Saw Asia once (a "superband" that failed, I guess), and he was definitely in that. He was incredible at that show.

I don't want to derail this thread from Greg Lake, but the ultimate group you're looking for is Renaissance ! Annie Haslam has THE BEST female voice in the industry and a "short" song for them ran 7-10 minutes. I saw them live as well. Such were the days...... Back to the original thread.

So now I'm getting curious, why were so many of us drawn to this genre of music ? I was, and still am, a listener of classical music as well, and what they now call "prog Rock" just seems an extension of that. I can just as happily listen to Beethoven all day long .
I also saw ELP back in ~ '76/77 and it is still to this date, the greatest "Show" I've ever seen and the show that will never end.
