Some may remember the tragic loss of nomadic jaguar Macho B in southern Arizona several years ago. Since that time, there have been numerous sightings of a younger male cat that has been designated ‘el Jefe’ (the boss). Well here we go, we now have another active cat on this side of the border!
It was about 2 ½ years ago the federal government designated several remote regions in southern Arizona as Critical Habitat for the jaguar. While drawing the boundaries for these areas, they excluded Fort Huachuca, and existing military reservation. I guess this jaguar didn’t get the memo … he was on the wrong side of the fence.

We gotta stop these Jaguars from moving back and forth across the border. It's commonly known that these jaguars are rapists, murders, they're bad....jaguars are bad, and they take the jobs of American jaguars. We've got to build a wall to keep them out.

Some, I assume, are good jaguars.

Even before the recent sightings, the exclusion of Ft. Huachuca seemed driven by factors unrelated to suitability of habitat. It will be interesting to see if el Jefe can avoid poachers.

Hope he can make it.
Walked down the rail line from Fairbank over to the San Pedro several years ago. Thought many times how cool it would have been to catch a glimpse of the big cat. Of course, chances were extra-slim in the middle of the day.

We better start a poll on how long before someone shoots it.
