For this coming weekend I am thinking of hiking the AT segment in Maryland near Penmar Park. Has anyone here hiked that segment lately? Where is the best place to park? Has there been any reports of damage to cars parked in this area? Thank You!!

Here's the Appalachian Trail parking database appalachiantrail.rohland.org/ - link to Maryland then Section 1 for various observations. There is a strong suggestion that the Washington County parks department be contacted (it's not a "state" park) before parking in the lot across the street overnight. This appears to be a current link: www2.washco-md.net/parks_facilities/p-PenMarPark.shtmI would suggest a polite voice telephone call, during weekday daytime office hours, and not too close to lunch, opening time, or quitting time. (sorry to add this observation, but not all have absorbed etiquette for bureaucratic dealings) The place does have a slightly dodgy feel about it, which a drive or walk up to High Rock might confirm. I've been glad to leave the area at dusk, with folks hanging about for no readily apparent reason even though it's in the middle of the village.
