So, my wife will be in Denver for short stint in early November for a conference. she asked me if I want to come along to do some dayhiking while she's working. I'm not asking for predictions, obviously, but can you guys school me on typical weather for the area at this time? cold doesn't bother me, but are the dayhiking destinations that you'd recommend already snowed-in by then?
is it worth it? or should I save a Denver trip for a more forgiving season? if you think I could still get some fun hikes in, any recommendations for a first-timer?
thanks much, Ashe

The traditional opening of ski season (albeit in the worst weather areas of the state/nation) is Thanksgiving. Some of them are 'technically augmented'. Unfortunately, you have missed the goldening of the Aspen by more than a month (September). It would be on the cold side - cool was October. There are many lower altitude hikes along and near to the Front Range. Check out Bolder Area for close in treks. REI in Denver would be a wealth of near real time information.
Its a pretty area. Don't leave her alone and out in the cold. Make two trips there to compare seasons you like. You can at least use the time to scout out trail heads for another time. Loads of those too and you have all day to roam.

Typically, you might even be able to do some dayhiking up in RMNP, the first week of Nov.. There might be a light dusting to a few inches of well packed snow in the shadows, but normally the big accumulating snows hold off until Thanksgiving. It will be cool to somewhat cold, but normally above freezing by mid day at higher altitude.
I've even done many overnighters the last week Oct./first week Nov. at fairly high altitudes trying to milk out the last of season with little to no snow.
November is still nearly "prime time" for the lower Foothill hikes. Temps are usually near perfect.

Plenty of good day hiking around Denver year-round. Here are some suggestions: Bergen Peak - Elk Meadows Park - Evergreen file:///C:/Users/pauld/Downloads/parks-and-trails-park-map-elk-meadow.pdf Beaver Brook Trail - Genesee www.summitpost.org/beaver-brook-trail/655378Red Rocks and Dinosaur Ridge - relatively short and close to each other
