We are planning a backpacking trip from Lipan Point to Grand View Point. We are wanting to leave a car at Grand View Point and try to catch a ride to Lipan Point to start our trip. Anybody have experience with transport on south rim? There is a shuttle that goes to Grand View Point but not past it. Has anyone used Uber, Lyft or any other ride share service around the canyon with any success?
Thanks

There is a taxi in the park that will take you there. Call the backcountry office for more info.

Checked my trip notes for Escalante Route, November 2014. We used "South Rim Taxi" (928) 638-2822. We spotted a car near Buggein Picnic Area (New Hance) and were dropped off at Lipan Point (Tanner). The cost was somewhere in $40-$60. There were(2)of us. The taxi was on time, no issues. They know the drill.
We have a drop-off need in March 2017 near Buggein Picnic Area (New Hance). We will not need to spot a car as our exit is Bright Angel. We will park at the Backcountry Office. Our plan is to utilize the same service. Will verify with a phone call 30 days prior to start date.

and were dropped off at Lipan Point (Tanner). Quick question Westy : Is there week-long parking at Lipan Point? I am planning to hike the Escalante Route next year and would prefer an early start. I'd probably rather grab a taxi from Grandview back to Lipan at the end.

Can't recall what time we arrived at Lipan Point, but it was enough to easily reach the river in a day. I'm sure we left the Village at first availability.
We opted for a New Hance exit rather than Grandview for our Escalante Route hike. This allowed us to park on a very short dirt road just past the Buggein Picnic area. I believe.. per backcountry office instruction, we left a visible note on the dash with our permit # and expected out date. Overnight parking is available at both Grandview (upper lot) and Lipan. Recommendation: for piece of mind and a simpler process, I'd front end the taxi transaction. Have the taxi follow you to Grandview, spot your vehicle, continue by taxi to Lipan and depart on your hike. That way, the transportation transaction is done and when you top out it's an easy getaway.
Will be using the taxi service for our 2017 Spring Break GCNP hike. Will inquire regarding "early bird" service.

I'd just hitch-hike if it was just along the South Rim. I can't imagine it would be much of a problem. Plenty of sympathetic like minded hikers driving in the area. You'd get a ride fairly quickly I'd wager.

If I see you, I'll stop. We'll be there for a family visit just before Christmas but we always go out to Cameron to have a Navajo taco.

Her knees are without pain for the first time in years, but she's still stiff going up and down stairs, etc. She's always been a bit stiff due to being in an serious auto accident as an infant where she was thrown out of the car.

I just received confirmation from our son that he has rooms for us from December 19-23. If any of you are there at that time, e-mail me at didrumm@hotmail.com and we'll try to make some kind of connection.

You can also check with the bell captains in the hotels and they will set you up with a shuttle. I've used this method on 3 trips and it's worked great.
