Last week, when we [Patagonia] announced we'd give 100 percent of our global retail and online Black Friday sales directly to grassroots nonprofits working on the frontlines to protect our air, water and soil for future generations, we heard from many of our customers calling it a "fundraiser for the earth."
We're humbled to report the response was beyond expectations: With your help, Patagonia reached a record-breaking $10 million in sales. We expected to reach $2 million in sales—we beat that expectation five times over. The enormous love our customers showed to the planet on Black Friday enables us to give every penny to hundreds of grassroots environmental organizations working around the world.Pretty damn cool. I wish I would have known. My fleece has worn through at the cuffs. Shouldn't be, after all I just bought it in 1978. I guess I could have forgiven them and bought another. Mr. Chouinard is my hero of all heros.

bluefish - Worn WearRepair and Care GuidesThey repaired a jacket of mine a few years ago. Now they'll either do that or send you instructions and a kit and instructions on how to do it yourself if that's feasible (saves shipping cost/pollution/etc.).

Mine will last a bit more as a work jacket, my wife does our repairs. Thanks. The material has worn as thin as silk from decades of wear- I wish I could redo the miles it's seen. Thanks for the links and the OP.

I don't know Yvon but I've met him a couple of times. He had some awesome stories at the 40th Anniversary of the Climbers Ranch.
We need more people like him.
My patagonia stuff always wore really well but I have heard some complaints reently. Hpefully just an odd batch or something.

I don't really know him, either, but I met him last year in Patagonia Park in Chile. "Hi, I'm Yvon Chouinard." "Oh, I know who you are, and I'd like to thank you for making me a better person." "I DID THAT?!?!" Then the stories started. A few days later Doug was dead. I spoke with Yvon again in Coyhaique, the day after Doug died, choking back tears. Yvon: "We have to keep this going." Me: "I'm all in." (I've been contributing down there and in the U.S. for a few years) We need more people like him. + a billion

Some people have far too much money. Well, I'll have to disagree with that. Yvon has a bunch of money as well. The difference is what we DO with the money, regardless of how much we have. And if we don't have much money most of us can still donate time, muscles, knowledge, etc. Just cleaning up trash helps.
