New to the backpacking world but not really to the outdoors. I've done my share of extended stays in the field as a US Army infantryman, but im excited to do it more on my own time. Living in Wisconsin just interested in hearing from you guys and reading tips, experiences, and advice. My biggest struggle right now is trying to figure out where to go. I would rather not really have to reserve any kind of sight for camping I prefer more primitive outdoor living/ bushcraft. I am looking at doing a few segments on the Ice Age Trail starting this spring. Anyone ever been on any segments of that trail???

Howdy from another "native" WI person. Though I was born there, I've since moved on to CO, though I get back for a family visit every 2-3 years.
I grew up being told that Johnsonville brats were the best, but I've found even better brats out here in CO, but there is no substitute for Racine Kringle.
Your best source of "local" info is going to be the Midwest forum in "Destinations".

Welcome from a former Wisconsite, now turned Texan. My loon avatar is from a northern Wisconsin lake.

there is no substitute for Racine Kringle. A truer statement has never been spoken.

Greetings from Minnesota. Where in WI are you at? Oh, and the best brats come from Louie's Finer Meats in Cumberland, Wisconsin. This is not open to debate.

Hello from Florida! Currently stationed in Hurlburt Field, first term Airmen. My biggest difficulty at first was finding places to go as well. Turned out, I was really just too picky. This is a great forum to find destination suggestions, and resources as well. Welcome to the club!
