I recently received the Diercon Personal Tactical Water filter, from Amy here on this board, and wanted to give it a fair review after using it for 10 days on my trip to NorCal's "Lost Coast".
The filter performed very well. It's very light weight and sturdy. Simple to field strip and clean. I really like that the body is aluminum, and that the intake port isn't extended out from the body like my Hiker Pro, making it a weak spot for breakage. The unit filters nicely and quickly, easy to pump, and can be back flushed easily after use. It's a narrow body design as well which makes it very portable. The streams I got water from were all very full and flowing, so I didn't feel the need to use any purifying drops, and I feel fine (so far), I've been back one day now.
The only "weak link" in the whole system are the hoses it's supplied with, but I replaced those before the trip. They were just kinda flimsy, especially compared the the "bomb proof" feeling of the filter itself.
I really like this filter, and plan on making it my main filter to take on trips. Also, Amy was a pleasure to deal with, such a nice person!
Thanks Amy.

Good gouge. Is the filter paper / carbon or ceramic?

@gooniesnvrsaydie, thank you very much for your review. With regard to the hose, we are improving it now. Thanks again for your help.

@gooniesnvrsaydie
Did you happen to weigh the filter and hoses, not the weight as listed in company specs? If you did, how much does the product weigh? How many gallons is the product supposed to be good for? How does the product size compare to a soda can?
Thanks.

It's about 6" tall x 2.5" wide x 1.5" thick I did not weigh it, but I can bring it to work and weigh it in my lab sometime this week and get back to you. I'll measure the tubing length that I used as well, since that will affect the weight, and provide a "without tubing" weight.
