I feel like Into the Wild and Christopher McCandless have been a lightning rod topic for a lot of outdoors people and backpackers, but I love Krakauer's take on it, and especially his effort to actually understand McCandless and not just write him off as a kid who wandered off not knowing what he was doing. I did a write up of my thoughts about the book, in particular how the legacy of McCandless stacks up to John Muir and if there really is a difference between the two, other than a far more abrasive personality in McCandless.

Nice review. Read that book years ago. Generally like Krakeaur's stuff.
