My wife has the very light rubber stuff (looks sort of waffle knit in appearance) that I might try to use under the pad to stop slipping when there is no level to be had. I also will try reuben idea in strips on my ground cloth.
Appreciate the info folks.
Added 11/22: Talked to two friends last night and agreed that the idea of making silicone strips on ground cloth is brilliant. We've decided to nominate reuben for the Nobel Prize for Backpacking...that is a category, right?

Tent with some snow load still worked out.
I'm hoping I got the hang if posting pictures.
EDIT: guess I did not get the hang of it. Will have to try again.

Frosty morning. Was kinda like a coffin with a snow storm inside.

That pole needs to be higher (in that photo at least) Because silnylon stretches when wet and or cold , if going to sleep before the fabric has relaxed you can either have the pole at a slight angle and then straighten that up to gain height (when you wake up during the evening/night) or just shove a boo*t under it but it needs to have good tension afterwards for this last bit to work. (*could be a largish flat stone...)
