You need to use a storage site (I fully recommend Photobucket!) then link the photo. Read the tips about the several choices, draw your own conclusions. Photobucket is free, easy to use, and has many advantages! Here's the info.

Well, not to negate anything Steve says, but perhaps look up the security problems Photobucket has had recently.

look up the security problems Photobucket has had Okay, officially surprised by that, I did: Reported in 2013, but when I read it I thought it described a brain-dead user as the "securitry" problem. It refers not to hackers but to people who take a photo of their passwords and post that in their bucket! Then others can search and in four hours, an example was located. My read of that? Anyone who thinks posting a photo of their bank account password is actually at fault, not Photobucket! The security problem is that many users either (a) forget that the Photobucket app syncs all their photos to the site* or (b) have no idea how to adjust privacy settings. Are you starting to see the problem here?* The smartphone app offers a user an option to sync all photos; that's what Photobucket is for! But it's the silly link-back that the app adds to a link for forums! As a fact, in the info I have added about fixing some things with Photobucket I have explained exactly how to make the changes the article says most users don't know how to do. So while I appreciate the tip, I see this as a solveable problem. But it's good to let people know and they can decide.

I've used Photobucket for years. It was my first on-line photo-storage place. I've stopped using it and even going to it because of malware warnings and actual infections from the numerous popups. I was only trying to bring attention to the possible problems with Photobucket.

I appreciate the additional info, and I am glad others can read your experiences and decide what to use.
I am a Mac user. I also have used Photobucket For many years. Never a problem. No popups, no infections, no warnings, no anything! But that's a Mac. No Norton Anti-Virus, just Mac OS security. But I can understand that PC users find bad surprises hiding in many places, so if Flickr has proven as a great storage site, that is a good endorsement. I did post a link to show that many people have troubles with that too. Me? The options for image sizes never appear! Not in Chrome, Firefox, Safari,...Not any options. I'm wondering if Yahoo has gone retro and serves a PC version vs. A Mac version? Back in the early days, that was common. MS required MSIE for certain functions, Mac users could go take a flying leap! I have no reason to care, I just want to help, and your comments add more help for others.
Thanks.

WWBF - the short answer is no, not directly from your computer to the forums.
It's the only thing I don't like about the new digs, but it does keep me from posting images. (Ya hear that, Dennis?)

It isn't dennis. I'm the one who decided that the "attachments" offered by ProBoards simply sucks and is not a solution that would be enjoyed here. Why not? First, I started working with ProBoards when I built a site for a gardening community. That group is mostly little old ladies who don't understand diddle about computers! They were accustomed to just adding a picture of their corn by uploading to the server. Fine, IF the server is in the basement at corporate HQ and HQ is willing to pay for it. When I started that forum, I had no intention of paying the fees for photo storage. There is a FREE 200 MB of storage, but be sure you see that is MEGS not GIGS. One woman was uploading huge pictures of her chickens that were up to one full meg in size. A chicken! The storage space was being used up fast and I had to start a campaign to get them to learn to use Photobucket! The second reason attaching sucks is that all images are presented as thumbnail images. Little 2" pictures you need to click to enlarge in a new window, and then there isn't any info in that window. Too much bother for a poor presentation. And to top it off, it would cost too much to pay for storing the images. Out of MY pocket? No way. Even if Dennis saus sure, it still is a bad solution. So if off-site storage is not your thing, you'll just have to describe what you saw.

I misspoke/mistyped earlier. What bugs me isn't the inability to upload (for obvious reasons), it's the inability to link to an image only if it's at photobucket, facebook, or other select sites. I certainly understand the storage issue. But if I have an image on my site that others might like, I'd sure like to link to it. That wouldn't cost BP anything. Heck, there might even be a nice image on backpacker.com that someone would like to link to...

Like this? It's a photo from BP.com Home page. No tricks, I'm not in CO at HQ, I'm in CA. So I'm not understaning the problem. If you have a photo on your own website, I'm sure you right-click on it for the URL, then because it's a URL, use the Insett IMG button, paste your URL info into that and then Insert Image. Bingo! The picture appears. Is this what you wanted? - - - EDIT to add: It struck me that there is another way to see the OP question: maybe he wanted to link to a pucture that was on his PC? Sometimes people do think they just need a link to a photo on their desktop, and we see a link that points to a C drive or something! Nope, not going to work. The photo has to be on a server, not on a PC in the office. Just in case, I thought I'd mention that.

Yes, familiar. But you used the IMG tag and I explained you need the Insert Image BUTTON. And your text link always opens with Access Denied, so maybbe that's why it disappears after a bit. Just to confuse things, I stripped the code to src and added IMG tags [img style="max-width:100%;" src="http://www.mayophoto.net/backpacker/billforester-3.jpg" [/img]

FYI, it's morning now and all the photos are still showing to me. Is mayophoto.net you? Your own server? If yes, then there's your answer: shutting it down makes the photos go away until you turn it on again. If mayphoto is some other intermittent source, that's a problem. For now? All the pictures are showing.

I see the last update was in August 2015. Is this still true? Use Photobucket?

I see the last update was in August 2015. Is this still true? Use Photobucket? Photobucket will now only work if you pay for premium service. So the new advice is to use Flikr. Here's the thread on how to do that. Go to the second page and there is a detailed and up-to-date explanation of how.
