I just rediscovered this in the back of my bookshelf and thought I'd mention it. I picked it up for a dollar in a used book store years ago and was pleasantly surprised by it. The book recounts the story of a north woods Ojibway recluse who befriends/acquaints himself/familiarizes himself (hell, I don't know the term) with a fisher that frequents his neck of the woods. Admittedly, it does have some anthromorphism to it but it's still a good uplifting read and gives you somewhat of a feel for living in the winter in the north woods. Hardly a scientific study, but still worth the time.
